At Least In This War

Quick. Take only your essential’ she said. ‘There’s a war outside and we must miss it just in time’

I took my money

But my money is just a piece of paper that can barter only for a few things.

Alas, my money couldn’t buy me anything; at least not life; at least not in this war.

I grabbed all my certificates

But my certificates are only sheets of paper, upon which my abilities are validated by people who don’t know me.

Alas, my certificate could not get me anywhere; at least not through the troops of shooting soldiers; at least not in this war.

I picked up my authority; the power I wield over those under me.

But my power is just a supposition of my strength as perceived by others.

Alas my power could change nothing; at least not the minds of the conflicting nations; at least not in this war.

Quick. Take only your essential’ she said. ‘There’s a war outside and we need to miss it just in time’

I picked my heart – not the physical one, for that would mean I’m a walking dead- and let it lead me.

For my heart has been taught, has learned and now speaks the truth. And when I follow my heart, it leads me to the truth.

And alas, with my heart, I found the truth about war – that it is merely misunderstanding with a flavor of pride and a huge spoonful of ignorance.

And so to those I taught, I spoke the truth,

To those wounded, I administered the truth,

To those hungry, I fed the truth,

And I resisted the proud, with the truth,

And birthed my children in the truth.

And that went a long way

At least longer than the others

 At least in this war.
